Do you struggle with the pain and other neurological symptoms of migraines? If so, then you probably want to reduce the frequency of your attacks as much as you possibly can. One way to do this involves keeping track of the top migraine triggers to learn which ones affect you.

Since different triggers seem to affect each patient, knowing your personal migraine triggers makes a big difference when it comes to finding natural relief. Once you have identified your migraine triggers, you can apply the applicable suggestions in this article to avoid them. This may reduce how often you have to deal with the debilitating effects of a migraine.

We’re going to take a look at some simple things you can do to avoid the top migraine triggers. Then we will take a closer look at a natural form of care that some patients swear by.

#1. Drink More Water

Who knew that something as simple as drinking more water could potentially reduce how often you get migraines? As it turns out, dehydration is a possible trigger. Therefore, be sure to increase your water intake and reduce beverages that may contribute to dehydration.

Caffeinated beverages and alcohol both dry a person out, so you may want to avoid these types of drinks if you get migraines. If you find that you need a cup of coffee in the morning to get yourself going, just be sure to drink extra water along with it. You may also be able to use an app to help remind you to drink water throughout the day.

#2. Take Time to Destress

Stress seems to be a trigger for just about every significant health condition. That makes sense in the modern world where stress is ubiquitous. We deal with stress at work, at home, and even on social media. If you don’t have a healthy way to deal with stress, the hormones it produces can remain at high levels in the body. This is a recipe for all sorts of health problems, migraines included.

While everyone deals with stress differently, some things may provide you the respite you need. For example, you may be in need of a vacation, a massage, a new hobby, or some other form of relaxation.

#3. Get a New Pair of Glasses

How might new glasses help with your migraines? A couple of visual triggers are bright lights or glare from screens. Therefore, wearing sunglasses when you leave the house may be one of the best preventative measures you can take. If you work looking at a screen all day, see if you can get an anti-glare coating applied to your lenses.

#4. Eat at Regular Intervals

I was late, so I skipped breakfast. I had a lot of work to do, so I didn’t take a break for lunch. It was too late for me to eat anything when I got home. What do these three excuses have in common? Any one of them can be related to a migraine trigger – skipping a meal.

If you get migraines and missed meals turns out to be one of your triggers, then you have to make time to eat. No excuse is worth a migraine. It takes just a few minutes to eat something, even if you have to munch on something at your desk. It can take days to recover from a migraine. It’s all about effective time management.

#5. Get Enough Sleep

This may be another time management issue. If you are staying up too late, not sleeping enough, or getting up frequently at night, these can all be potential migraine triggers. However, you may feel powerless to combat the problem. After all, you can’t make more hours in your day.

While that is true, prioritizing sleep may help you to reduce the frequency of your migraines. Take a look at your schedule and find the optimal time to go to bed and wake up daily. Then stick to your schedule. Your body is more likely to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up at the right time if you have a set schedule.

That may mean waking up earlier than you want to on your days off, but isn’t it better to wake up early than to have your relaxation ruined by a migraine?

#6. Get Some Exercise

Exercise may seem counterintuitive, especially if one of your triggers is overexertion. However, we are not talking about CrossFit training or anything super intensive. Even just a little exercise each day can have benefits for things like improved blood flow, reduced stress, and lower pain levels in the body. So for a person living with migraines, daily exercise may provide some great benefits.
