Types of Headache and relief

Headaches fall into over 150 different categories. That’s an astounding figure that helps explain why the medical industry struggles to help patients. With that in mind, we’re going to look at several of the more common headache types. Then we will discuss a natural way to get relief and prevention.

4 Headache Types

Tension Headaches: This is the most common type of head pain. Chronic head pain conditions often involve tension headaches. As you can tell by the name, tension headaches are often associated with stress. Their pain levels range from mild to moderate.

Migraine Headaches: While migraines are technically a neurological condition and not just a head pain, one of the primary symptoms of a migraine is a headache (with just a few exceptions). Additional symptoms of a migraine include sensitivity to sounds, lights, and smells, nausea, and dizziness (to name several).

Sinus Headaches: When the sinuses get inflamed, head pain can occur. Pain will also be present in the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and in the forehead leaving these areas tender to pressure. Other symptoms of sinus problems may include a runny nose, fever, facial swelling, and a feeling of fullness in the ears.

Hormone Headaches: Many head pains seem to be related to changing hormone levels in the body. As a result, women may experience more head pains during their period, while pregnant, or while going through menopause.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care - The Best Relief Option

Case studies have consistently revealed the benefits of upper cervical chiropractic for headache relief. This is because the atlas (C1 vertebra) can greatly impact brainstem function, blood flow to certain parts of the brain, and cerebrospinal fluid drainage. Therefore, correcting the misalignment can give the body time to heal and alleviate the pain from many different types of head pains.

If you experience head pains on a regular basis and have suffered any type of head or neck trauma in the past, an atlas misalignment may very well be the underlying issue. Contact an upper cervical chiropractic practice today to set up a consultation.
