Gardening and Back Pain

Gardening is a good hobby for health and one of life's simple pleasures. The fresh air, the sound of birds chirping, and the satisfaction of nurturing plants to live are why so many of us love spending time in the garden. It can help you relax, improve your mood, exercise more, and even improve your mental health. In addition, gardening allows you to connect with nature and save money on food bills by growing some of what you eat at home instead of buying it from supermarkets or restaurants. However, despite being a great hobby, it can cause mild to severe back pain if you don't do it properly. The main causes of this discomfort are poor posture, lifting heavy objects, and bending over for long periods.Luckily, there are ways to avoid back pain while enjoying this calming and environmentally beneficial hobby. To ensure that your gardening experience isn't marred by unnecessary aches and pains, follow these tips:

Always warm up first

Warming up your muscles before gardening is the best way to avoid back pain. Try some stretches, walk around the garden for a few minutes, or do gentle yoga or tai chi.

Use good posture

Keep your back straight, and bend at 90 degrees at the waist while keeping your shoulders back as you work. Try not to hunch over, which can cause strain on the lower back muscles as well as neck pain in some cases. You can maintain good posture by keeping your head up and eyes focused on what you're doing rather than looking down at the ground all day.

Your knees are your friends

When you kneel, your knees are the largest joints in your body. They should also be bent at the right angle when kneeling to avoid pinched nerves. If you have a pillow or towel to rest on, that's great! Otherwise, support your weight with both hands (one on either side of your plant) to support some of the pressure placed upon them by being bent over for long periods of time.

Don't sit on the ground

Avoid sitting on the ground because it forces you to lean forward, which puts pressure on your spine and can cause muscle strain. If you have to sit on the ground, use a stool or chair with a backrest and at least as tall as your knees when bent at a 90-degree angle. If there are no stools available, just don't sit down!

Move your whole body

Move with purpose--don't just lean over to grab something in front of you; bend at the knees and then use those muscles to reach down for the item instead of leaning over uncomfortably far. This helps keeps pressure off of both shoulders as well as prevents back pain from occurring later on because you've been putting strain on one side all day long!gardening, Upper Cervical
